OVERREACTING
the debut album by laser the boy
Gay, angry, lo-fi alt rock from Laser, singer/songwriter behind the Doubleclicks & Teaching a Robot to Love. Produced by Brandon Eggleston (producer, the Mountain Goats).
“It’s equal parts venomous and flirtatious, teetering between volatile, heart-weary indie-rock and confessionally-etched odes to adoration and romance. He perceives the world a certain way, always through a give-no-fucks filter, even when he’s wooing a lover. “It’s the way that you look at me / And the way that you let me look at you,” sings Laser with “The Way You Look at Me,” his voice as light as a feather. Even as airy as his tone is, there’s always a weight to it, as you’ll hear on standouts “Lucky Me” and “Don’t You Know Who I Am?” — oscillating between jagged and smooth. Laser needles his lyrics with such vocal panache that his words are heightened, electric, intense.”
a shark ate my penis
A Shark Ate My Penis is one guy's journey in figuring out he's a guy! This is a solo musical about my own transition and the historical trans men who have helped me along the way. I'll tell you about my journey in figuring out who I am, and along the way we will meet Alan Hart, a guy who got gender-confirming surgery all the way back in 1917; Samuel Bundy, whose 1760s legend includes a shark, and 12 girlfriends; and renowned children’s author J.K. Rowling, for reasons. These characters will usher me through a life of weddings, divorces, shame, queer imposter syndrome, lesbianism, and joy!
I'll be performing this hour-long show in its first trial run at Hollywood Fringe this June (also streamed) and then in a more evolved version at Edinburgh Fringe this August (I am so excited! I am so scared!), and selections from the show will be also be part of the set I'll be touring this July on the East Coast/Midwest! Finally, I'll be creating a high-quality recording of the show to be shared online, so everybody can meet the cool men from history who have helped my journey.
